Employee Productivity:

After study that showed that Facebook users tend to get lower grades in college, another study was done showing the following outcomes:

    • Companies that allowed Facebook use lost an average of 1.5% in employee productivity
    • A survey done of 237 showed that 77% used Facebook during work   
    • Some employees used Facebook for two hours during work
    • 1 in every 33 workers used Facebook at work
    • The employees that used Facebook at work, 87% used it non-business related reasons

    These statistics show that employees tend to go on Facebook very often during work hours. This can created loss in employee productivity and thus possibly create loss in profit. For example, if your margin your profit is 1%, employee productivity means a lot and impacts your business immensely. Facebook has created and continues to create problems and loss in workplaces, companies, and businesses.

It recently reached it’s 750 million and it continues to grow, this rapid growth may affect businesses and companies extremely. This could result in very bad outcomes and possibly even result in bankruptcies for some companies and businesses.Overall, Facebook has a negative impact not only in school, but also at work and thus should not be allowed at either.

How  much time do people spend on Facebook:

People spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook, that is more than any other social network or media. Also, 1 in 13 people on earth use Facebook  and 72% of Americans use Facebook. In December 2009 ,there were 110,000 people using Facebook  according to a graph.

    The country that uses Facebook the most is Australia with 6 hours,52 minutes,and 28 minutes and  there are 750 million users on Facebook worldwide. In 2009, Americans spent 13,872,640 minutes on Facebook ,out competing other social networking websites. However, In April 2009, MySpace was still more populated than Facebook at the time. The United States of America is the #1 country with users on Facebook,while Canada is the #7 user of Facebook.People spend nearly 6 hours per month on Facebook. Facebook is the #1 place for social networking and it is still growing rapidly.

Is Facebook a good place to advertise? What is the best way to advertise?

Facebook can be a good place to promote your business. You can reach over 750 million people of different age groups, genders and types of interests. This gives you a larger variety of audiences and viewers. People treat Facebook as a part of their life and the current generations spend a lot of time using it. Just by one Facebook user seeing and liking your add, you can have the next day 10 Facebook users who like your business. This is why Facebook is so widely used by companies and businesses all around the world.

The best ways to advertise on Facebook are to:

  • Create multiple ads on multiple pages
  • Target multiple demographics – age, gender, likes, dislikes
  • Be legitimate like don’t lie about something on your ad
  • Don’t copy other advertisements
  • Embed a webpage so viewer can access your website
  • Add images to your advertisement

These tips can largely impact your advertisements positively by giving you a larger audience and  more business.

Hiring/Firing policies & Marketing

    It’s no big secret that Facebook can help you in online marketing. However, I know there are many of you who believe that just registering on Facebook is enough… it is not. There is much more to marketing on Facebook than just creating a profile.  Keeping your fans engaged is the key. Don’t be a brand, but be a community they love being a part of.

Also, Facebook can be a positive or negative asset for keeping or getting hired for a job. For example, 

  • If you say bad things about your company, boss or employees you could lose your job
  • If you have a nice sophisticated picture and profile a company may hire you
  • If you post  inappropriate content on your profile, the chances are if your boss sees it… your fired or not get hired if an emplyer sees it

Here is a story about a lady named Souza that got fired for making bad remarks about her employers:

The National Labor Relations Board and Dawnmarie Souza agreed yesterday to end a lawsuit  over Souza’s firing, which occurred after she made some bad remarks about her employers on Facebook.
We do know that Souza will not be returning to work at the same company.
The woman’s employer, a Connecticut ambulance company, is also changing its blogging and Internet use policies in ways that will no longer prohibit employees from talking about work online.
Still, the variable location, timing, tone and content of Facebook comments mean that not all Facebook posts are protected speech; employees should still exercise good judgement when discussing work and personal matters online.
